EXTRA! EXTRA! Read All About It!

Alyssa Sankey was a contestant in the State Speak-Off Contest!  On October 3rd, 2007 Alyssa won 1st place at the Colusa County Resource Conservation District’s Annual Speak-Off Contest which advanced her into the Regional Competition that was held in Orland on October 19th.  This year’s Speak-Off theme is “RCD's and Youth – Conservation for the Future”.

At the district level she did a great job and was well prepared for the Sacramento Valley RCD Regional Competition, and at the Regional Competition, she did an excellent job where she competed against winners from Yolo County RCD and Glenn County RCD.  Poised, polished, and ready to wow; Alyssa gave her speech, "RCD’s and Youth – Smooth Sailing", that awarded her first place in the Regional contest, and moved her into the state competition.

The State Speak-Off Competition was held on Friday, November 9th, 2007 in Rancho Cordova at the California Association of Resource Conservation District’s Annual State Conference.  This is the highest level of the competition, and the contestants spoke in front of the large number of conference attendees.

There were five students in the state competition, and all of them delivered excellent speeches. The speeches ranged from goats to nuclear power and were quite entertaining. Alyssa finished third in the competition and received a $100.00 prize from the California Association of Conservation Districts. The Colusa County Resource Conservation District would like to say, “Congratulations, Alyssa! You did a GREAT JOB in every contest!"
