California Invasive Weeds Awareness Week

California Invasive Weeds Awareness Week (CIWAW) was July 19-25, 2010. CIWAW is an annual event that brings attention to the problems caused by invasive plants in California, and to the work of local groups that work to protect our natural areas and rangelands. CCRCD is helping to spread the word about invasive weeds through community outreach and education.

Money Available for Water Quality and Conservation Projects

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced last Friday the release of over $21 million to fund the new 2010 Agricultural Water Enhancement Program (AWEP) established by the 2008 Farm Bill. Overall, 9 projects in California were approved over a five-year period for $6.27 million for water quality and quantity projects. APPLICATION DEADLINES FOR THESE PROGRAMS ARE JULY 28 AND JULY 30, 2010. Colusa County landowners are eligible and encouraged to sign up for these programs. CCRCD looking for Farm & Ranch Cleanup Sites!

The Colusa County Resource Conservation District is eligible to apply for Farm and Ranch Solid Waste Cleanup and Abatement Grants through the California Department of Resources, Recycling and Recovery (CalRecycle).
